What is Multi-Chain?

Before I explain what Multi-Chain is, we must first understand that blockchains like Ethereum, Polygon and the BNB Chain, for example, are not designed to be able to connect and communicate with each other.

Naturally, Layer 1 blockchains can’t interact with each other, due to the different rules and architecture of each network. This is why we have the Multi-Chain, a technology used to make decentralised applications on a single blockchain interoperable with any other blockchain!

Thanks to Ethereum’s EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine), other blockchains like Avalanche, Polygon and the BNB Chain which are EVM Compatible have the ability to host Multi-Chain dApps. Let’s use Aave as our example.

Example

Aave is a Borrowing & Lending dApp that first launched on Ethereum and swiftly started to integrate other leading blockchains such as Arbitrum, Optimism, Fantom and many more. Thanks to the Multi-Chain technology, users can benefit from every network on Aave alone!

Conclusion

I previously covered what the #Omnichain is, if you missed that you can check it out on my website (next tweet) and I will next be writing about the #CrossChain. It’s important to understand the difference, it will help you down the line!
